Opening with an ominous synth that sounds like something out of a melodic Dracula movie, ” Dreams “ builds a unique atmosphere from the very beginning. “ Welcome to your dreams, where all possibilities are endless…” coaxes the glitchy transmitted voice, letting you know you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be. As soon as the transmission goes quiet, Shelfz creates an interesting build.
Somewhere near the first-minute mark, he drops the filthiest Riddim-esque drop known to this realm. Exuding Subtronics vibes and that jarring backbeat that feels like you’re shaking down an old roller coaster, I can almost detect a dash of Excision in there. The layered drop comes at you from all angles with huge glitchy samples that swallow you whole. My favorite part is the “Bruh” sample in the background that’s used in many viral YouTube videos.
Those small, intricate pieces are what always attract my attention. Drifting you off into a melodic interlude a little past the halfway point, those same ominous, organ-type synths creep their way back in. Only given a second to recuperate before the final drop, Shelfz blasts you off the rails in his final thirty seconds of your time. With winding precision and glitchy animatronic noises textured in the background, this last portion of the track is what every headbanger dreams of!
