Nearing the end of his Moonglade tour, Of the Trees and company pulled into Dallas, Texas, to break our hearts and melt our brains for a bass-booming Valentine’s Day concert. Accompanied by Freddy Todd, Maddy O’Neal, and Opiuo, this couples concert is exactly the date night my wife and I needed. Who wants a dozen roses and stale chocolate when the Experimental Bass God himself is in your city?
Playing at the Silo Dallas, the ominous vibes of the warehouse that was once an old grain silo matched the energy of the room perfectly. The huge wooden cabin loomed overhead, adorned with plants and shrubbery from all angles. Built in Tyler’s backyard before the tour, it was even more intense in person. With doors opening at 9pm, we knew we were in for a long night ahead, but Of The Trees is my wife’s favorite artist and we were fully committed to getting near the front row.

Lets get this party started!
Warming up the crowd first for the night was artist Freddy Todd. The counterpart of BLAAP, Todd got us going for the evening with his unique style and keytar skills. Everything was going smoothly until my girl Maddy O’Neal stepped onto the stage. Ive been wanting to see her live since last year, after I ran out of gas and wasn’t able to catch her 5am set at the Wakaan Afters. Smashing through several of her major hits, as well as playing some of her newer tracks off her recent Vital Signs album. Oneal’s set was badass. Occasionally, she would step to the side of her deck and bang away on a drum pad with a pair of sticks, which I thought was super cool and really added to the live effect of her set. This small move really demonstrated her artistry and musical skills, and were a subtle but nice touch to her performance.
Then came Opiuo… blindsided by his craftsmanship, neither my wife nor I had the pleasure of checking him out before. Boy, were we in for a treat! Hailing from Melbourne, Australia, his high energy and heavy accent controlled the crowd vigorously. His unique synths gave off almost an ’80s vibe, as if I were locked inside the world of Tron or something along those lines.
As the sets wore on, the night began to slowly build. The cool thing about this evening was that each artist brought their own unique vibe and energy to the concert. All totally different, yet they all fit together perfectly to encapsulate a wonderful Valentine’s Day outing. Put on by Disco Presents and hosted at Dallas’ newest club venue, the Silo, one couldn’t ask for much more for a perfect night out. But wait, there’s more…
Tyler the God
Easing to the stage with a college-boy swagger, Tyler Coombs, aka Of The Trees, took to the decks. With dark, castle-like graphics in the background, the intro to his set was unbelievable! When the speakers kicked in, the whole room vibrated; you could almost feel the wooden slats beneath your feet rumble as he shifted things into full force. Standing firm just a few people back from the railing, it was quite a task to stay towards the front with the thick, dense crowd, but fight we must!
Playing a barrage of hits along with some of his older tracks, there’s a reason we all came here for Of The Trees. With intense background visuals that match the medieval vibes of his acclaimed Memory Palace records, Of The Trees tore the house down. Holding strong in the front, his set was so intrinsic I completely forgot that I was tired and worn out. My wife and I remained glued to our position as the bass boomed and lasers shot overhead. Eventually, Todd came back out to the stage to play a few BLAAP tracks with his partner in crime.
I can die happy

Then, of course, somewhere toward the end of his set, he had to play ” Spanish Moss… ” What the F**K… my mind melted as the infamous intro began to fade in… My life was complete; we can all go home now. Tired and more than pleased, my wife’s beautiful smile rang with agreement. Finally, around 2am, the lights came on, and the whole crew came out for a final photo with the crowd. Adorned in a full ghillie suit, I am not very visible in the picture, but my wife’s gigantic cheesing grin shines through radiantly.
