UK-based DJ, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Lawrence Hart announces his long-awaited debut album, ‘Come In Out of the Rain.’ This exciting release will take place on 4th April 2025. In addition, the album features the upbeat emotional single ‘Closer To You,’ which Domino’s Double Six imprint will promote.
Hart describes the 12-track album as an “emotional garage record, euphoric and therapeutic.” Throughout the album, he journeys through cinematic melancholia, soaring synths, and moments of fragility, much like the experience of coming in out of the rain. Each track reflects the emotional depth of navigating through life’s storms, embracing both joy and sorrow. Alongside nine new tracks, the album also includes his 2024 Double Six singles ‘NoMoreLuv4U,’ ‘Hear Ur Heartbeat,’ and ‘Just Belong.’ Notably, tastemakers like Sian Eleri, Lauren Laverne, and Danny Howard have supported these singles. Furthermore, they gained heavy playlist uptake, including a Spotify Altar cover and Amazon Signals slots.
Single Spotlight: ‘Closer To You’ – A Reflection of Rainy Emotions
The single ‘Closer To You’ features a pitch-shifted vocal sample layered over euphoric synth chords. As a result, the lively percussion creates an upbeat dance track with a hint of melancholy, capturing the full range of emotions suggested by the title. This single beautifully embodies the theme of coming in out of the rain, where emotions can shift from happiness to introspection, much like the unpredictable nature of a rainstorm.
Tech wizard Hart draws inspiration from his grandfather, renowned computer pioneer Geoff Tootill. He initially trained as a classical musician in his childhood. At fifteen, he auditioned at prestigious music schools in New York. Afterward, he studied jazz trumpet at SUNY Purchase and played alongside greats like Bob Mover.
Eventually, Hart discovered electronic music and clubbing, which inspired him to develop his production skills. He collaborated with fellow Double Six/Domino artist George FitzGerald, with whom he has a long-standing musical relationship. To date, Hart has released solo singles, EPs, and remixes on labels such as Hotflush and his own SSEM label.
Hart explains, “For a long time, I worked on music because I didn’t know how to be in the world. This album is about acceptance and opening myself up.” The metaphor of rain plays a significant role in his creative process, symbolizing both cleansing and turmoil. Consequently, he started the Lawrence Hart moniker to create music that brings people together on the dancefloor and builds a sense of community.
In this spirit, Hart hosts a series of free community parties across London. He is joined by artists and friends such as lau.ra, BBC Radio 1’s Jess Iszatt, Guilia Tess, Otus, Mera Bhai, and Millie Cotton. More event details will be announced soon.
