We had the opportunity to sit down with Riggi & Piros, the dynamic DJ duo who are continuing to elevate their sound with their latest release, “Backroom.” In our conversation, they opened up about the inspiration behind the EP, their evolving creative process, and how they aim to push boundaries while staying true to their roots. Here’s a closer look at what the duo had to say:
1. What inspired the overall direction for this EP?
The overall direction for this EP was inspired by the raw energy and emotion we’ve felt during our shows. We wanted to capture the intensity that the crowd gives us and transfer it into a collection of tracks that represent the darker, more primal side of our sound. It’s about creating a sonic experience that pulls listeners into a different world, something that feels like it lives in the shadows yet comes alive in the spotlight.
2. You’ve described this EP as bringing an intense and dark energy to your live sets. Was there a particular moment or vibe that sparked the idea for these songs?
There was a specific moment on tour when we noticed how much the crowd connected with the heavier, more intense parts of our sets. It felt like this unspoken synergy that made the room feel electric. We wanted to lean into that energy and explore how we could turn it up a notch while still making the tracks feel cohesive. The idea was sparked by that live energy & how it can feel both chaotic and controlled at the same time.
3. Each track on the EP has its own unique energy. Which track do you feel defines the “Backroom” vibe the most, and why?
It’s hard to choose, but if we had to pick one, it would actually have to be the song Backroom. That track perfectly embodies the vibe because it’s got that raw, gritty texture with a buildup that just keeps climbing. It’s like stepping into a space where things get darker, more intense, but in a way that feels exciting and unpredictable. The drop on this track really sets the tone for the entire EP, and we feel like it represents the essence of the direction we’re moving in.
4. How has your sound changed from earlier releases to what we hear on “Backroom”?
Our earlier releases were more melodic and had a lighter, “poppy” more upbeat vibe. Over time, we’ve evolved to explore deeper and darker sounds, blending more intricate rhythms and heavier bass lines. On “Backroom,” we pushed ourselves to experiment with edgier, more atmospheric elements while still keeping that dance floor energy intact. It’s a shift towards a more immersive experience, where each sound is designed to hit harder and take listeners on a journey.
5. Were there any new influences or sounds that you experimented with on this EP?
Definitely! We drew inspiration from a lot of underground techno and dark house sounds, which added a new dimension to our music. We also experimented with some industrial elements, which gave the EP its gritty texture. Additionally, the percussive layers were something new for us. We really wanted to focus on the rhythm sections to create tracks that feel almost tribal in their energy.
6. What’s next after “Backroom”? Are there any upcoming collaborations or new sounds we can expect from you in the near future?
After “Backroom,” we’re looking to explore even more collaborations. We’ve got some exciting projects in the pipeline with artists who bring totally different vibes, which is going to open up new creative avenues for us. As for the sound, expect a mix of what you’ve heard in “Backroom” with some surprises! We’re not afraid to step into new territory and push boundaries, so fans should definitely stay tuned for that. Also- free Remixes are coming.
7. You’ve accomplished a lot already—what’s one goal or dream you still hope to achieve in your career?
One of our biggest dreams is to headline one of the major global festivals, like Tomorrowland or Ultra. We’ve had the honor of playing some incredible stages, but there’s something special about leading an entire night with a full audience experiencing the vision we’ve built from start to finish. We also dream of creating a live, immersive show that goes beyond just music—something that incorporates visual storytelling in a way that really leaves an impact.
8. How would you describe your creative process together and individually?
Our creative process is a blend of both our strengths. Together, we’re all about energy and momentum—we bounce ideas off each other until something sticks. Individually, one of us might dive deeper into the technical production side, focusing on sound design, (usually Piros) while the other might focus more on melody and arrangement (usually Riggi). It’s that balance between the technical and creative that makes our partnership work. We each bring something different to the table, and that’s what makes our sound unique.
