Calcium Dubs, a rising force in the dubstep scene, has crafted a unique sound that sets him apart from the crowd. But where did this journey begin? Surprisingly, it all started with a Skrillex performance that ignited a spark in the young producer. “I was pretty young at the time, maybe 11 or 12, and I was watching the MTV Music Awards with my sister,” Calcium recalls. “Skrillex won an award, and I heard ‘Equinox’ play on TV. I was like, ‘YOOOO, WHAT IS THAT?’ The next day after school, I hopped on the family computer, looked up ‘dubstep’ on YouTube, and the rest is history.” From that moment, Calcium’s love for the genre blossomed, and with the help of FL Studio, he started his journey into music production.

A Unique Sound and Unexpected Inspirations

Known for his distinctive sound, Calcium’s creative process is as diverse as the music he produces. “My inspiration can be pretty random,” he admits. “I’ve had moments where an idea hit me in the shower, and I rushed to my computer to crank it out.” For him, inspiration often comes from unexpected places like movies, TV shows, video games, or discovering old hip-hop gems. It’s this eclectic blend of influences that gives Calcium’s music its unique edge.

2019: The Turning Point
The year 2019 marked a major turning point in Calcium’s career, launching him into the spotlight. His track “Mega Punch,” which dropped at the end of 2018, took him further than he had ever imagined. “2019 was definitely the year music became full-time for me,” he reflects. “I had ‘F.W.Y.S.’ riding the wave, and ‘Mega Punch’ really pushed me to the next level.” It was clear that Calcium was no longer just an aspiring producer but a real player in the dubstep world.

Tour Life and Unforgettable Moments

Calcium wrapped up his 2023 tour with a string of unforgettable experiences, from sold-out shows to packed-out venues. “The Texas weekend was definitely the most memorable for me,” he shares. “Dallas and Houston were the biggest venues I’ve ever headlined, and they were packed out! Seeing the Texas crew show up for me like that was unreal.” Another standout moment came at his Denver show—the first time he sold out a headline performance. “Having that happen was a surreal moment. It felt like everything I had worked for was finally paying off.”

Advice for Aspiring Producers

For those just starting in music production, Calcium offers some grounded advice: take your time. “It’s okay to make ‘bad music’ when you’re starting out,” he says. “Trial and error is effective for a reason. It took me about five years before I started liking what I was writing and another four before I felt like I knew what I was doing.” He emphasizes the importance of staying true to yourself. “Make what YOU want to hear. Don’t let your music become a chore. I write dubstep because I love dubstep.”

What’s Next for Calcium?

As for what’s on the horizon, Calcium hints at exciting projects to come, including a long-awaited mix and a string of shows that will push his career even further. “There’s one specific city next year that will be my biggest headline yet,” he teases, leaving fans eager for more.
