With a vast history in the music industry, and loving music from a young age, Adam Holiday is a truly committed individual. His passion for creativity knows no bounds, and he is looking forward to a big year ahead full of releases and shows all over the globe. We caught up with Adam to learn some more about what he does and why we should be listening out for him!
Hey! What’s going on in the world of Adam?
All good in the world of Adam thank you! My girlfriend and I recently had a baby girl so it’s been a pretty busy, but amazing, few months. Although things have been hectic, I’ve managed to squeeze in time in the studio and I’m really excited about my recently completed tracks!
Where abouts are you based?
I’m lucky enough to live in Marbella, which is in the South of Spain. Originally, I’m from Johannesburg (South Africa) but moved over here almost 9 years ago.
How long have you been working in the Dance music scene? And how did it all start?
So, I’ve been in the industry for 15 years now! My love for electronic music started when I was 14 years old. My uncle had spent a year traveling in London and Ibiza, when he returned he had a bunch of CDs and said ‘Adam, listen to this music.’ I would come home from school and listen to these CDs for hours and that’s really where it all started. I then began DJing and I got my first residency at age 17. After I finished school, I decided I really wanted to learn more about music and so I studied sound engineering at college and naturally began producing music.
Describe your sound in three words!
Dance-floor Fire Starters!
Who were your influences as you got in to Dance music?
Erick Morillo – I saw him play at Pacha on his Subliminal Sessions night when I was 17 and he completely blew my mind. Best set I have ever heard, and I’ve never seen a DJ rock a crowd like he did that night.
My other influences are Mark Knight, as he´s such a talented producer, and definitely Black Coffee. It’s so great to see someone from South Africa who has done so well keep his unique sound from when I first heard his music.
What has been your career highlight so far?
Hearing some of my productions played on radio stations and having DJs I follow also support my music!
Another highlight for me was getting a residency in one of Johannesburg´s biggest nightclubs and playing alongside some of my favourite South African DJs.
What does this year hold for you?
This year for me is all about improving as a producer and to work more efficiently in the studio. I want to try to develop my sound and bring out 12 new tracks this year.
What’s your ultimate career dream?
Having my own residency in Ibiza or Las Vegas would be a dream come true. I also want to grow my own label, Haunted House, and begin signing new up and coming, talented artists.
Can you tell us about any upcoming releases and projects you’ve got lined up?
My next release is coming out on the 26th March on an Italian Label called NoMatter Records. It’s a two track E.P. and I definitely think it’s my best work so far. The Main track has been getting a good response when I play it, and that’s called ‘I like it when U’.
I have another track pretty much done which I am really excited about. I have used a sample from a popular track from the 80s and I’m trying to get clearance on being able to use the sample at the moment. All going well I´ll be able to release the track soon!
Apart from that I do have some cool projects and ideas. This year I’ll be making sure the track ideas I have all come to life.
Whose releases impressed you the most in 2017?
I would have to say Junolarc as he seems to have a different sound to the normal ‘tech house’ vibe. The tracks he released in 2017 were all quality and produced at such a high standard.
Also, without a doubt, Harry Romero. He is one of my all-time favourite producers; he is like a machine when it comes to releasing music. He has put out so much last year and all his tracks sound amazing.
What are your resolutions for the New Year?
As discussed above, I want to develop my sound and I want to bring out at least 1 track a month. Apart from that, stay fit in the gym and give people enjoyment through my music.
Can you tell us something not many people know about you?
I used to be a magician, so if you ever see me face-to-face, hand me a pack of cards and ill entertain you for hours.
Anything to add or shout outs?
Shout out to all the DJs and radio stations that supported my music last year and for the positive feedback!
