Miley Cyrus has seemingly transformed right before our eyes — from Hannah Montana, to tongue out, twerkin’, blown up, mega celebrity, to psychedelic Flaming Lips hippie babe, and back to her rich, wholesome, folksy roots again. But, the reality is Miley hasn’t changed at all. She’s just been doing her the whole time, and anyone who’s been down for the ride has been treated to a ridiculous amount of heartfelt, meaningful, artistic music along the way — regardless of genre. “Malibu” shows off the pop star’s softer side, and has found itself at the heart of several transformative remixes some of EDM’s finest. Dillon Francis takes the chill track for a spin, adding a bit of vocal flavor, a sped up moombathon drop, and added percussive elements to make the song more moveable. Alan Walker meets somewhere in the middle of progressive house and future bass, offering up a fun, feel good vibe. The Him layers vocals and echoes to the advantage of the track, mixing melodic with traditional house for a unique take on “Malibu.” Tiësto remains true to the original, while putting just enough steam behind it to keep the track moving at a faster, enjoyable pace perfect for the beach. Gigamesh takes the song to new heights, with fluttering instrumentals that will make your heart skip a beat. Saving the best for last, Lost Frequencies draws out the most stunning moments in the mix, while adding some unexpected synths that bring just the right amount of heavy. Ugh, so fucking good. Every one of these remixes are worth a listen, but it must be said Miley carries the song with her vocals and raw, tangible realness that can be heard in the breezy, beautiful, “Malibu!” This article was first published on Your EDM.
